
Grenade explosion injures female soldier and children in Nasarawa
A female soldier named Mohammed and two children were injured in a grenade explosion at Maraba, Abacha Road, Nasarawa. The incident happened when a woman found a grenade during cleaning and asked the soldier to help identify it. The device detonated while being handled, causing severe injuries. Mohammed is currently receiving treatment, and investigations are ongoing.
What happened
- The explosion occurred at about 11:46 am on Wednesday, December 24, 2025 at Maraba, Abacha Road, Nasarawa.
- A woman found a grenade in her apartment, left there three years earlier by a yet-to-be-identified soldier serving in the North East.
- The grenade exploded as Mohammed tried to identify it, injuring her and two children belonging to the woman.
- Mohammed was first treated at a private hospital in Keffi, then transferred to Defence Headquarters Medical Centre in Abuja, and later referred to Cedarcrest Hospital, Apo.
- The Director of Defence Operations, Maj. Gen. Michael Onoja, stated he has not been briefed on the incident.
