Ghana detains 48 Nigerians for alleged cybercrimes
At least 48 Nigerians have been arrested in Ghana in connection with various cybercrime offences. The suspects were apprehended during a coordinated raid by security agencies in the Dawhenya area. According to Samuel George, the operation targeted individuals involved in romance scams, online investment fraud, and other illicit activities. Items such as laptops, mobile phones, and internet devices were recovered during the raid.
What happened
- Samuel George stated that the arrests were made during a joint nighttime operation by the Cyber Security Authority of Ghana, National Security, and the Ghana Police Service.
- The suspects, identified as 46 males and two females, are believed to be Nigerian nationals based on preliminary interrogation.
- The group is allegedly linked to romance scams, online investment fraud, impersonation schemes, and illicit online gold trading.
- Recovered items included 54 laptops, 39 mobile phones, one Starlink internet device, and eight MTN TurboNet routers.
- The arrests follow the recent deportation of 42 Nigerians from Ghana’s Ashanti Region over related offences, as revealed by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, in a Facebook post on Thursday, December 18, 2025.
