Yobe and Benue see surge in new displaced persons, NHRC reports
The National Human Rights Commission’s latest data shows a sharp rise in internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Nigeria, especially in Yobe and Benue. According to NHRC Executive Secretary Dr Tony Ojukwu, Yobe recorded 2,047 new IDPs and Benue 1,850, reflecting deepening crises in the North-East and North-Central. The report, presented on October 2025, highlights ongoing humanitarian challenges, particularly for women and children. The NHRC urges urgent government action to address the growing needs and vulnerabilities of displaced people.
